The City Treasurer is an elected position. The Treasurer directs the daily operation of this Office. The Treasurers staff consists of the following:

The City Treasurers office serves as the custodian for all of the City’s funds. This Office is responsible for managing the City’s cash flow, investments, budgeting responsibility, general accounting functions, accounts payable and payroll.

The Treasurer is responsible for providing a monthly treasurer’s report and the City’s annual treasurer’s report that is published prior to October 31st. This office is also responsible for assisting the auditors in preparation for the annual audit. In addition, the Treasurer also serves as the Budget Director for the City.

The current 2008-2009 City budget is $23 Million. The Budget includes funding for public improvements, infrastructure, public safety, recreation programs and City library as well as the City’s general operating expenses. In addition, the Budget includes $6.3 Million in capital improvement projects including Pleasant Ridge Road, Lexington Drive, Longacre Drive, storm water improvement and sewer expansion.

The City Treasurers Office interfaces with all departments throughout the City to ensure that we are maximizing the use of city revenues for the long term benefit of our residents.

What is the Sales Tax Rate in Fairview Heights?

The sales tax rate in Fairview Heights is 7.85% with the exception of the Shoppes at St. Clair Business District where it is 8.10% excluding the Barnes & Noble Bookstore.

For every dollar spent in Fairview Heights, the City receives 1 ½ cents.

What is the Home Rule Tax?
The ½% tax was imposed with ¼% to be used for capital improvement programs such as this year’s projects Pleasant Ridge Road, Lexington Drive and Longacre Drive, Ogles Creek and storm water projects and the sewer expansion program and ¼% for the general operations of the City.

 

What is the Food and Beverage Tax?
It is a 1% tax that was implemented to retire the $8 million bond debt for the construction of a new police facility, Ogles Creek and stormwater projects and sewer expansion program. The tax is based on retail sales of food and beverages that have been prepared for immediate consumption within the City.

What is the City’s Hotel/Motel Tax Rate?
The City currently charges 5% on hotel room receipts. This revenue is spent to encourage tourism to our City by sponsoring events such as the Midwest Salute to the Masters Art Fair, Little Falcons Football, Knights of Columbus Bowling Tournament, Vietnam Wall Experience.
